She hasn't been out of town since we went on the cruise a couple of years ago and hasn't gone anywhere alone for, I don't know how many years.
( Wednesday Haunted Spring Break )
( Thursday )
( Friday Night Skeletons in the closet )
We were able to spend the entire week out at the island. It allowed us to get some things done at the house to get us closer to calling it 'home'. There is still a lot of work to do but it is at a livable state. We should be ready to receive guests within a couple of months. We also used it as a test run for us to start spending the evenings out there and to have a little more independence. So far, so good with the exception of us staying in town this week for some doctor's appointments for both parents and sending mom out of town this weekend for a little R&R.
We hope to start painting next week. We're painting 3 rooms downstairs and doing touch ups in the living room. Once we're finished with the first floor we'll head upstairs to set up the studio and guest room. We're keeping the upstairs as is minus some touch ups and painting the floors.

Lady in the graveyard

*Edit* She's the black figure that the blurry tour guides hand is unknowingly pointing to. :)
This was taken on 4.8.08 at the Circular Congregational Church in Charleston while on the Ghosts & Graveyards Tour. Being a Charleston native, I have never taken a tour before. Bulldog Tours was established in 2001 to help raise money for the preservation of historical buildings in the city.
The Circular Church is the only church on the tour where we were actually allowed to go onto the burial grounds. The tour guide stopped us before entering the grounds to tell us that the parking lot we were standing on was part of the graveyard. There are 1500 recorded burials, but only 500 gravemarkers.
When we stopped, Michael said, "there's a lady right there." He didn't say it too loudly, but said it again. I tried to look in the right direction (after looking at the photo I realized I was focusing on a different point) while Michael held up the camera and clicked. This is what we got. When he first saw her, she was standing where the tour guide's head is blurred.
A few moments later we entered into the grounds. Tyler saw a woman's face ahead of him. She came towards him and he got terribly chilled and nauseous. He didn't say anything until we got into the car. About the same time that this was happening Michael told me again about the woman and that she was in perhaps a Colonial style dress, but wasn't sure. He said it had flowers on it.
While we were in the back of the graveyard I experienced an increased awareness of my surroundings. I also got cold and very, very nauseous. I almost got sick later in the evening as well as our dog, Duncan. Tyler also had some issues during the night.
Residual energy?
The heightened sense of awareness and increased energy used to happen to me pretty much every time I was out in the evenings when I lived in the area. Hell, it happened all over downtown for me, but I will admit there are some 'hotspots'. I love this city and I am happy to be home again. It is alive and to me, it takes me in and keeps me safe.
The compliment meme - because all of us can benefit from a lift!
One little compliment can make you feel amazing. So give me a compliment, anything in the entire world.
Step TWO: Put this in your journal. Once you get some comments, tag that entry into your memories. When you are feeling down, just go to that entry and your friends will remind how great you are.
As someone who grew up with a lot of name taunting, that's gotta hurt. Provided that kids know what the hell a Merkin is.
( Oh yeah, we were in Atlanta two weeks ago and stayed at the Highland Inn... )
Progress?
I have the sewing machine here at the condo. I am working some cloth roller blinds for my mother and I am also trying to work on some things for myself, like the rhinestone corset. I am having trouble finding motivation. I wish I were faster and better at what I do than this.
The gold busks arrived the other day. I got a couple with differing lengths just to be safe. Thank you to everyone for their input and vote. I think that I will try to look at some ideas for coloring one this weekend, but I'm not holding my breath. :)
I am also about to start planning an 18th century Pet-en-l´air. I have a pattern for a Robe à la Française, but I have always liked the shorter jacket version. And who can resist wearing something that literally translates into, "fart in the air"? I think that I can still keep the piece pretty formal. I will probably order the pattern from JPRyan. I am working on designs for the skirt that may not be exactly period, but I have a severe adversion to following rules. I will post swatches and the drawings soon. The damask that I wanted for the jacket is no longer available it seems, so I need to look for something else.
We purchased tickets to see Eddie Izzard on Wednesday, June 25 in Atlanta. We got them knowing full well that we may have to sell them due to our current circumstances, but we're excited nontheless.

and the Queen of the Big Top costume.

What color should the red rhinestone busk color be?
I have an update coming about our weekend in Atlanta.
I love technology.

I need to pick up the Volvo and drive it back and return equipment to Comcast. They told us we could do it here, but their systems don't talk to each other. As big as that company is, it doesn't make sense. We also need to make a run to Patel Brothers for Indian cooking supplies.
Would anyone like to meet up for Brunch on either Saturday or Sunday? We were thinking about hitting Manny's or someplace in the evening and leaving Tyler to watch some movies in the room.

I am amazed at this. They are on the fast track to becoming best buddies. Carmen however, is a different story. She will stand there and charge Duncan. It's actually quite funny seeing the Christmas Ham charge a 100 lb. dog and see him run. Yeah, she doesn't take shit from anyone.
In other news we have, er, boarded the Death Star...

We needed to consolidate our wireless plans. TMobile is not available in Charleston and I am waiting for the next generation of the iPhone, so we signed up for a family plan with AT&T today. Michael was with them on an old business account that he will no longer use, but we also had Tyler on an AT&T account and thought it was the best solution. I tried to put together the package online, but that was dismal failure. It turns out that we couldn't migrate Tyler over to the plan with us having Charleston numbers, so I ported my number over and Michael got a new Atlanta number. We didn't think it would be too much trouble since most people's plans include free long distance. If you would like his new number, please let us know and I will send it to you.
Two hours later, we walked out with new phones. There were issues on their end porting my number over, but it wasn't a big deal. The guy we worked with was really fantastic and it was worth the wait to get the plan that worked best for us. I was mentioning the Death Star reference and he turned his monitor around showed us his wallpaper. Yup, the AT&T logo super imposed on the Death Star. Priceless.
We got Michael a Blackberry Curve and Tyler a Blackberry Pearl. I got the Samsung A737 because it was very cheap. I didn't want to spend too much money on anything for me since I will upgrade my device sometime in the near future. We have forms for $200 in rebates that they all but mailed for us so they're going out tomorrow. We have heard rumors that the next generation iPhone is being released in April, but it could be complete conjecture. The new ones will be 3G and some other additions, so it not the 16 gig hard drive update. Does anyone know anything?
Thank you so much for being here. Thank you for being the love of my life. When I am ready to throw in the towel, you whisper the words that become the wind that fill my sails. You are the ballast that steadies me in the strong storm. Without you, I am lost at sea. Without you I am alone adrift in the doldrums. But then, you are so much more.
I love you.
I'm in charge of his meds (4 times a day) and Michael is on bathroom call. That could be anywhere from 3 to 6 times a night at this point. I usually run out and do the grocery shopping and other errands. It's just easier.
Mom's emotional state is much more fragile than we suspected, so I am setting up little weekly 'dates' for mom and I to do on a repeating basis. Seeing her sister, having lunch with some of my cousins, going to Stitches - a knitting store - and have her hang out and knit. She used to knit everything when I was a kid and got me a lovely startup kit last year. I'm such a nimrod that I can't really get it going right. She has promised to teach me. Michael and I will have little dates of our own when Cherry, the woman who cleans house comes.
Trader Joe's is just a couple of miles down the road. Sweet!
Michael had to leave at 5:00 this morning to run back to Atlanta to deal with Tyler and a dental situation. This is really all I am going to say about the situation right now. I am beyond pissed at Creature right now and it will do no good bitching about her. I was able to call Dr. Abbott's office and get him an appointment while Michael was on the way. They were able to fit him in just after noon. They ended up having to do a root canal, but thankfully they were able to reconstruct the tooth and not have to do a crown. The price went from the estimated $2400 to $1500. He is on his way home and he is tired. He didn't sleep much last night because I had a headache that wouldn't die down, and I tossed and turned all night. Hormones and worrying about Tyler. I really hope he stops and gets a room for the night.
We're bringing dad home tomorrow. He's been very good about things taking longer than originally projected. We also think that he's trying to find ways to stay there. He's very nervous about everything, but so are we.
I keep thinking that I have to pack everything to get on the road to go back to Atlanta and go into the office each day. Strange. Good, but strange.
It's going to take a while for the kids and Duncan to figure things out. Hopefully it will happen, but it may not. We may have to take them out to the island and let them live there. Junior's out checking out the new digs right now while Duncan is crashed in mom's room with the door closed.

More later.
We still have internet access tonight, but I don't know for how long. It was supposed to be disconnected today.
We should be in Charleston right now but we are sitting in an almost empty space (Yay!). We're about a day and a half behind. We're fine with it right now, but this morning was another story. We cannot have the big truck in the lot after business hours so we have to load the cars and drive them over and then load the truck. So basically twice the work. Every night for the last three nights after sunset it started to rain. We still had a lot stuff to do today and had to deal with the washer & dryer. When we opened the truck this morning we discovered that the bar and some of the items on top had fallen over. One of the legs is broken on bar and one of the tables. I just stood there and cried. It took us over an hour to get everything back into place and load what was in the cars.
We went down the leasing office to tell Michael that we wouldn't make our walk through this morning. He was totally fine with that. He later told us not to worry and we could take the weekend if needed. The loft isn't rented and we're technically paying for the month, so why kill ourselves?
baldsug called in the morning and I had an emotional vomit all over him. I called him back in the afternoon and apologized, and I promised to clean up my mess.
While we were breaking down the garden a guy walked by. I asked him if he had a washer & dryer. He gave us a strange look and said no. I asked him if he wanted a set for free and he looked at me again with the same look and then said yes. He jumped through the garden and he and Michael took them away.
Not long after that another resident and his young daughter walked by. She told us in a sassy voice that we needed to move our truck away from the stairs. I politely told her that we do it would soon. We had also debated if we wanted to take the television with us or give it away. So I just blurted out the question asking them if they wanted the tv, also for free. They were totally in to it. It turns out that they didn't have one. We also gave them a spare dvd player that we had lying around.
I told Michael that perhaps there was a higher reason that it has taken us this long to get everything done. We may not have been able to help out these people.
We're getting up early in the morning to load the pick up truck and put a couple more things in the big truck, finish cleaning / spackle / touch-up paint and do our walk through.
We have been able to at least laugh at the situation and at ourselves. It's the only thing that kept us going a certain points.
We have copy of 'Catch Me if You Can' and we hooked up Michael's monitor to the laptop. We're going to curl up on the rug with the cats and let our bodies take a break.
Not sure if we'll have access in the morning. Next transmission may be from the USS Chucktown.
Please keep your fingers crossed that we get out of here in the early afternoon.
It was great having
Jim Stacy stopped by to pick up an old jacket pattern. He walked in and said, "Man, you haven't done much". Smart ass. It was good for a laugh.
Tomorrow will be the rest of the big stuff and the garden. We're patching the walls and Kilzing the green wall in the bedroom tonight. I am going to ask Michael if we can do our walk through first thing on Friday morning instead of tomorrow afternoon.
Our next move will be 3/4 mile down the road if we build the new house on that last parcel of land.
We're hiring movers.
A week from today we'll be in the truck(s) rolling towards the Lowcountry!
